Covid19 Protocols for Our Nurses & Newborn Caregivers :

By Let Mommy Sleep. May 21, 2020

Since Let Mommy Sleep was founded in 2010, we’ve been a company dedicated to evidence-based postpartum care, and working with highly skilled team members. In addition to hiring Nurses and Caregivers with exceptional newborn care experience, we follow the recommendations of leading organizations such as the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the CDC.

Now that we have a new normal due to coronavirus, we’ve reexamined and refined our practices even further and will continue to reassess safety measures, as we have since 2010. Here is an overview of our protocols and procedures in the family home:

What we've always done:

  • Wash hands upon arrival and continue handwashing and sanitizing through the night, as well as before and after all contact with baby.
  • Shoes are removedupon arrival to your home.
  • Provide continuing education to staff to ensure we are following the most recent safety, health and care guidelines.
  • Err on the side of caution by keeping home staff at any sign of illness.
  • Follow AAP and CDC guidelines for healthcare providers by remaining updated on all vaccinations to minimize the risk of influenza, pertussis (MMR) and other illnesses to which newborns may be susceptible. We request proof of these vaccinations, in accordance with the EEOC guidelines for healthcare workers. Our team agrees and complies with the AAP statement that vaccines for health care workers are “ethical, necessary and just” especially when working with vulnerable newborns and infants.

What we’ve implemented since covid19:

  • All caregivers wear masks.
  • Body temperature is routinely monitored; temperatures are taken prior to beginning each night working with a family.
  • Caregivers work with one family at a time to minimize exposure.
  • Nurses working with our families as well as in hospital work on “covid clean” floors when at the hospital.

What can we do together to minimize exposure of illness and covid19?

In addition to adhering to CDC recommendations, please allow our postpartum team to use sanitizing wipes or household cleaners to wipe down often touched surfaces through the night. While we can’t always practice social distancing, we can wear masks, handwash and clean, clean, clean!

If you have any questions or concerns regarding our safety protocols, please let us know, and thank you for allowing us into your home.
